  15. INSTALLATION: 
  16. -------------
  17. Installation of MusicEase is very easy. 
  18.  
  19. If you have received your evaluation copy on (2) 5-1/4" floppy disks, 
  20. simply place DISK #1 in your floppy disk drive and type A:START [ENTER]. 
  21. (or B:START, or any other valid floppy drive letter). 
  22.  
  23. If you received your evaluation copy on a single 720k floppy disk, simply 
  24. place the disk in your floppy disk drive and type A:START [ENTER] (or 
  25. B:START, or any other valid floppy drive letter). 
  26.  
  27. If you "downloaded" your evaluation version from a BBS or other electronic 
  28. service, simply create a "temporary" subdirectory on your hard disk drive, 
  29. and extract the files from the distribution archive file to that directory. 
  30. Then change to that subdirectory, and type START [ENTER].
  31.  
  32. The installation program will create the necessary subdirectory on your 
  33. hard drive, and will then install the program files to that subdirectory. 
  34. Once the installation is complete, you may delete the files from the 
  35. "temporary" subdirectory that you originally created.

  38. QUICK START: 
  39. ------------
  40. In order to make FULL use of this powerful program, you will need to fully 
  41. read the documentation, which is contained in a file called MUSICEZ.DOC. 
  42. However, simply executing the command ME followed by pressing the [ENTER] 
  43. key will start the program. The menu options are displayed in the lower 
  44. portion of the screen, and you can move forward from one item to another by 
  45. pressing the [SPACE] or [TAB] keys. The [BACKSPACE] or [SHIFT]-[TAB] keys 
  46. will move backwards from one item to the previous.
  47.  
  48. The first thing that you will probably want to do is to set the Options for 
  49. your system. When initially installed, MusicEase is configured for CGA 
  50. video. Using your [TAB] key, move through the options at the bottom of the 
  51. screen until "Options" is highlighted. Press your [ENTER] key to go into 
  52. the Options setup area. Once in the Options area, press [TAB] to highlight 
  53. the "Display" option, and press [ENTER]. In the Display setup, you can 
  54. select the preferred MODE (Text or Graphics), RESOLUTION (Medium or High), 
  55. and ADAPTER (MDA, CGA, EGA, VGA, etc).

  57. With these options set, you're ready to begin using MusicEase!
  58.

  60. PRINTING THE DOCUMENTATION:
  61. ---------------------------
  62. The documentation file (MUSICEZ.DOC) is formatted for 75-characters per 
  63. line, and 60-lines per page. To print the documentation, you can simply 
  64. issue the following command from the DOS command line:
  65.  
  66.      COPY MUSICEZ.DOC PRN
  67.  
  68. The documentation file contains form-feed characters, so it can also be 
  69. printed by various printing utilities.
  70.  
  71.  
  72. MusicEase is Shareware!
  73. -----------------------
  74. The purchase price for fully licensed copies of MusicEase is $49.00 (US), 
  75. plus applicable shipping/handling charges. You are entitled to evaluate 
  76. MusicEase for a period of up to 30 days. If after that time you continue to 
  77. use the program, you are required to purchase a fully licensed copy of the 
  78. program. If you do not do so, you must delete it from your system.

  80. There is a file named REGISTER.TXT in the distribution file set which 
  81. contains the information regarding the interactive registration process. 
  82. This process is activated by pressing [SPACE] from either the beginning or 
  83. ending screens of the program. It will calculate the appropriate charges, 
  84. and will then print a registration form (either to the printer or to a text 
  85. file).

  87. The shareware/evaluation copy of MusicEase is not restricted in any way 
  88. during the stated evaluation period. After 30 days of unregistered usage, 
  89. the registration reminder screens will change. After 90 days of 
  90. unregistered usage, the printing functions will no longer be available. And 
  91. after 120 days of unregistered usage, the program will cease to function.

  93. Upon registering the product, you will receive:
  94.  
  95.      -  a fully licensed copy of the most current version available,
  96.  
  97.      -  a 25% discount on future upgrades and new releases,
  98.  
  99.      -  a printed manual including graphic images which cannot be
  100.         included in the non-registered on-disk manual,
  101.  
  102.      -  an extensive tutorial, included in the printed manual
  103.  
  104.      -  a symbol definition utility,
  105.  
  106.      -  a symbol file containing many more symbols,
  107.  
  108.      -  a disk containing various sample scores as examples of the
  109.         extensive capabilities, and sample LaserJet print files which
  110.         can be copied directly to a LaserJet printer for examples of
  111.         the truly professional output (*),
  112.  
  113.      -  unlimited support via mail, telephone, CompuServe, etc.,
  114.  
  115.      -  update notices for future versions,
  116.  
  117.      -  removal of the watermark on printed output,
  118.  
  119.      -  removal of registration reminder screens and time limitations,
  120.  
  121.      -  welcome screen will be branded with the name of the Registered Owner.

  123. And apart from all that, the knowledge that you are helping to support the 
  124. Shareware concept - a distribution system that brings you quality software 
  125. at realistic prices.

  128. support BBS, or they can be ordered seperately on floppy disk.

  131. So what is Shareware? 
  132. ---------------------
  133. Shareware is copyrighted software which is distributed by authors and 
  134. publishers through bulletin boards, on-line services, disk vendors, and by 
  135. copies being passed among friends. It is software that you are allowed to 
  136. try before you pay for it. This makes shareware the ultimate in money back 
  137. guarantees.

  139. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. There is good 
  140. and bad shareware, just as there is good and bad retail software. The 
  141. primary difference between shareware and retail software is that with 
  142. shareware you know if it's good or bad before you pay for it.
  143.  
  144. You benefit because you get to use the software to determine whether it 
  145. meets your needs, before you pay for it.  Authors benefit because they are 
  146. able to get their products into your hands without the expenses it takes to 
  147. launch a traditional retail software product.
  148.  
  149. The shareware system and the continued availability of quality shareware 
  150. products depend on your willingness to register and pay for the shareware 
  151. you use. It is the registration fees you pay which allow shareware authors 
  152. to support and continue to develop their products.

  154. Please show your support for shareware by registering those programs you 
  155. actually use and by passing them on to others. Shareware is kept alive by 
  156. your support!
